Wind, railway history and two very different coast-to-culture districts
Houlong has two useful travel zones: the exposed coast around Dashan, Waipu, Guogang and Cape of Good Hope, and the HSR Miaoli/Fengfu cultural district around the Hakka Round House and Yingcai Academy. Do not try to walk between the coast and HSR district.

HOULONG AT A GLANCE
Know before you go
Information checked 31 July 2026. Construction, coastal access, rail services, venue hours and fares can change; confirm with the named official operator before departure.
Layout
Houlong has two useful travel zones: the exposed coast around Dashan, Waipu, Guogang and Cape of Good Hope, and the HSR Miaoli/Fengfu cultural district around the Hakka Round House and Yingcai Academy. Do not try to walk between the coast and HSR district.
Transport
Houlong and Dashan TRA stations serve the coast, while HSR Miaoli and Fengfu TRA stations serve the cultural venues. Coastal buses are limited; reserve a taxi or confirm a safe cycling plan and your return service.
Weather
Spring and autumn are most comfortable. Summer is exposed and storm-prone; winter monsoon winds can be strong. Cancel cliff, breakwater and tunnel routes during heavy rain, long-wave warnings, typhoons or poor visibility.
Local etiquette
Fishing harbours and railway stations are working places. Keep out of operational areas, never enter tracks or closed tunnels, and do not collect fossils. Ask before photographing performances or rituals.
