Transport
Use Tongxiao TRA Station for the shrine and town centre, and Baishatun TRA Station for Gongtian Temple, Taisalt and the coast. Reserve a taxi for Flying Cow Ranch or the appointment-only Araki Art Centre.
Weather
Spring and autumn suit outdoor walking. Summer is exposed and storm-prone; winter monsoon winds affect the coast. Never treat Baishatun coast as a permanently lifeguarded swimming beach.
Local etiquette
Baishatun pilgrimage is living religious heritage, not a stage set. Respect worshippers and local homes. At the shrine, factory and craft workshop, stay within open visitor routes and ask before photographing people or work.

Hutoushan, woodcarving and Tongxiao town life
Walk the shrine site in the morning, then visit the appointment-only workshop. Without a confirmed booking, use Taisalt instead.

The ranch is large. Do not force Baishatun or Hutoushan into the same day; select animal, ecology and workshop sessions from the live schedule.

Local food
Tongxiao Market and the TRA station district are the most reliable meal area. Baishatun opening varies between ordinary days and pilgrimage periods.
Market and supplies
Shop in Tongxiao town before the coast, hill park or ranch. Use current official supply guidance during pilgrimage events.
Accommodation
Flying Cow Ranch has registered accommodation; other options are dispersed. Verify every hotel, guesthouse or campsite in Taiwan’s official register.
Pilgrimage and events
Dates, route, crowds and traffic controls change every year. Use current temple and government notices only.
Families and accessibility
Taisalt is the most practical indoor option. Flying Cow Ranch is hilly; the shrine, coast and workshop are not continuously step-free.
Rain and evening
Use Taisalt or a confirmed Araki booking in rain. Cancel the coast and slippery hill steps; do not explore unlit shore paths.
Transport and toilets
TRA stations and formal venues are the reliable service points. Check live rail and bus returns before crossing districts.
Medical and emergencies
Call 110 or 119 in an emergency. For medical care, return to Tongxiao town and use Taiwan’s official medical-facility search.
