Use Zhunan TRA Station as the rail gateway. National Freeway 1 Toufen Interchange serves the city; local buses to hill areas are infrequent, so confirm the last return service before leaving.

Hakka villages, tea hills and an easy urban base
Toufen has no railway station. Most visitors transfer at Zhunan TRA Station, then use a bus, taxi or rental car. Keep urban sights, the Lao-Qi tea hills and the Yongheshan countryside in separate clusters to avoid backtracking.

Weather
Urban sights work year-round. Hill trails are hot and humid in summer and slippery after rain; spring tung blossoms are seasonal and never guaranteed.
Etiquette and safety
Tea fields, old houses and temples are working community spaces. Stay on public paths, ask before entering private property or photographing rituals, and carry out all waste.

Three practical ways to explore Toufen
Old houses, a living temple and indoor play
Visit community heritage in the morning and move indoors after lunch. If Luzhunan is closed, spend longer at Shang Shun.

Central Road and the urban core offer Hakka dishes and broad dining choices. Opening claims change quickly, so verify with the business.
Accommodation
Most options cluster around Shang Shun and Zhunan Station. Verify legal registration through Taiwan’s official accommodation database.
Transport
Zhunan is the rail gateway. Check real-time buses and arrange a return taxi before entering hill areas.
Families and accessibility
Shang Shun is the easiest all-weather option. Heritage lanes and hill trails have uneven surfaces, steps or thresholds.
Rain and evening
Use indoor urban venues in rain. Do not treat mountain trails as night activities.
Events
Hakka and temple events follow annual announcements. Do not reuse dates from an old post.
