Railway heritage, coastal wind and everyday town life
Zhunan sits at the northern edge of Miaoli County, next to Hsinchu. Use Zhunan Station for town sights and Qiding Station for the historic twin tunnels. The coast is best explored by car or taxi; wind and rain can change quickly.

Weather
Spring and autumn are generally comfortable for walking. Summers are hot and humid; winter monsoon winds can be strong on the coast.
Etiquette and safety
At temples, follow worship routes and event instructions. Along the coast, obey warning signs and never assume an unguarded beach is safe for swimming.

Three practical ways to explore Zhunan
Railway heritage, forest and sunset
Start at Qiding in the afternoon and finish at Longfeng Fishing Port. Driving is easiest; visitors without a car should allow extra taxi wait time.

Food, access, rain plans and emergency help
Opening hours and event dates change. These links favour official services or current map results rather than unverified “open now” claims.
Local food
Look for traditional snacks around old Zhonggang, seafood near Longfeng Fishing Port, and the widest range of restaurants around Zhunan Station. Opening days change frequently, so confirm with the business directly.
Markets and town centre
Zhunan Market and the station area are useful daytime supply stops. Traditional markets are liveliest in the morning; festival traffic controls may affect access.
Hotels and camping
Most practical accommodation is in Zhunan and neighbouring Toufen. Before booking a coastal campsite or homestay, verify its legal registration through Taiwan's official accommodation directory.
Events and festivals
Zhonggang Ciyu Temple rituals, coastal events and Northern Miaoli Art Center programmes are date-specific. Use the organiser's current notice for dates, tickets and traffic controls.
Families, older visitors and access
Shishan Park is the strongest family stop. The art center and tea museum are gentler rain options. The station-side approach to Qiding Twin Tunnels includes steps; confirm an accessible entrance before travel.
Rain and evening plans
Choose the art center, tea museum or a confirmed indoor industrial venue in rain. For evenings, the station district is the most reliable dining base. Avoid coastal woodland and tunnels in strong wind, heavy rain or poor light.
Toilets, supplies and visitor help
Stations, the art center, fishing port and large park are the most practical service points. The Zhunan Station Visitor Information Center is at 2F, No. 166 Zhongshan Road; confirm service hours before arrival.
Medical and emergency help
Call 110 for police, 119 for fire or ambulance, and 112 from a mobile phone when reception is limited. In a medical emergency, call 119 and let responders choose the appropriate hospital.
